I took Glee Season 1 from my friend. At first, I thought Glee is just another teen drama like High School Musical. After watching a few episodes, I perception changed, Glee is not any other teen drama like Gossip Girl or High School Musical, there is certain lesson which all of us can learn from watching it. Even for me, there is a lot of challenges which we are facing or will be facing in future, watching Glee certainly help me to understand some of the things.
Glee is about a group of high school students who didn't fit in their social circle, they consists of people with different physical features and personality. White, Black, Asian, minority, punk, gay, disable, fat, blond, they are a group of unique people come together as one group, connected by music. Each has to accept who they are, running away from problem is never the solution. What stunned me the most is this video. Beautiful sung by Mercedes Jones.
- How many of you at this school feel fat?
- How many of you feel you're not worth very much?
- Or you're ugly, or you have too many pimples and not enough friends?
Well, she has something to say about it.
Watching Glee is an empowerment to the teenagers. It teaches us about equality, inclusion, feeling confidence and telling everyone it is ok to be exactly the person you are. When everyone is accepting our differences, we can reduce discrimination gradually.
